  1. Almost 90% of people suffer a sleep disorder at some point of their lives.1
  2. The NRMA estimates fatigue is involved in one in six fatal road accidents.2
  3. Seventeen hours of sustained wakefulness leads to a decrease in performance equivalent to a blood alcohol level of 0.05%.3

  6. In 1953, Eugene Aserinsky from the University of Chicago observed for the first time a relationship between the movement of the eyes during sleep and dreaming.6

  8. The record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech as well as memory and concentration lapses.8
  9. Regular exercise is a great way to improve your sleep. Just be careful not to do it close to bed time as exercise produces stimulants that stop the brain from relaxing quickly.9
  10. A new baby typically results in 400 – 750 hours lost sleep for parents in the first year.10
