Wenatex Blog :: Healthy Sleep for a Better Life

Brought to you by Wenatex. Wenatex - Sleep, Health, Science

Kitty B Yancey from USA Today reported that the “pillow menu” is the “latest thing” offered by some hotels in the United States. These hotels are promoting healthy sleep with a view to reducing snoring in their guests.

The general manager of Kimpton[1] Hotels’ 70 Park Avenue Hotel in New York had the idea to create a pillow menu after he found an anti-snore pillow in a store.

Now others are expanding on the idea, for example, the Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts[2] in North America offer a “Sleep Advantage” program, developed by sleep experts. Guests get a free kit with earplugs and eye mask, calming lavender mist, a CD that lulls them to dreamland — even a clip to hold drapes closed, shutting out light. They also offer “quiet zone” floors.

… and the trend is starting to catch on in Australia with some of the larger hotel chains jumping on the bandwagon and offering healthy sleep options.

I would be interested to hear about your experiences with any hotel chains in Australia offering this service. Did it add to your experience? Did you get a better night’s sleep?

You don’t have to go to an expensive hotel chain to experience a good night’s sleep, you can achieve a healthy sleep environment at home. To learn more, I strongly recommend you to attend to one of Wenatex’s free healthy sleep seminars.

  1. Jane Teresa Said,

The Hilton in Sydney has a ‘pillow menu’, which is great because the pillows normally supplied have a feather component and I’m allergic to feathers. It took me a good half hour to ‘digest’ the pillow menu and make my selection, and then to order it up to my room. I thought it was a brilliant idea but wished I’d packed my Wenatex pillow and saved myself some time and energy! My room also total blockout blinds as an option to curtains for guests needing to sleep through jet lag.

  2. Dr. Juan Semo Said,

    Thank you for you input.

You are right, feathers are something of the past… obviously not if you are a collector of antique linen!!! It has been proven that pillows and quilts with feathers can have higher concentrations of fungi, bacteria and other types of allergens like dust mite excrement. (Just imagine the concentration in bedding a hotel uses!)
To end, I think that a good way to solve your dilemma with the Wenatex Pillow is to get a second one… just like cowboys… always one for the road!

    Be wise and have fun

  3. Anonymous Said,

I’ve heard that there are some hotels that will taylor the firmness of their mattresses to your taste. If you don’t sleep as well as you sleep at home you get one night’s accommodation free.

  4. Dr. Juan Semo Said,

Thank you Anonymous and I hope that you had a great weekend.

In answer to your question, no, I have not heard of any hotel chains offering this “service and money back guarantee”.
I know that in the USA and Canada, some hotel chains work in conjunction with mattress manufactures to give costumers the opportunity to try their brand.
Although it sounds quite “attractive” to try a mattress for a few days, the reality is that the body needs several weeks to “reshape” itself to the new mattress.
My suggestion is to find a sleep system that has been tested to help achieve a relative anatomic neutral position.
Attending a free Wenatex healthy sleep seminar will assist you make the right decision. http://www.wenatex.com.au

To finish, can you please send me the name of one of the hotel chain providing the service you mentioned?

    Thank you

    Be wise and have fun

    Juan
