Consumers are seeking to live cleaner, more environmentally conscious lifestyles. As a company, we not only take sleep but our duty to ensure our business has as little negative impact on the environment as possible, very seriously. As part of Wenatex’s continuous research into healthy sleep, one of the focus points is how to develop products that are also environmentally friendly allowing you to sleep more sustainably.
The wenaCel sensitive mattress features the innovative TENCEL™ lyocell fibre, combining the ideal characteristics to achieve healthy sleep, while reducing our environmental impact.
TENCEL™ lyocell fibres are produced by environmentally responsible processes from sustainably sourced, natural raw material, wood. The wood pulp is sourced from eucalyptus trees, grown on farms where no old growth forests, genetic manipulation, irrigation, nor pesticides are used. In addition, eucalyptus trees are fast growing, can be grown in land deemed unsuitable for farming and require little water to thrive. This production uses less land and water than cotton manufacture – A. T. Kearney Business Analytics Consultancy estimates that cotton production uses 20 times more water than lyocell and five times as much farmland.
These forests and the pulp produced for TENCEL™ have earned Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification that the products come from socially and environmentally responsible forests.
The TENCEL™ textiles are also created through the use of nanotechnology, an award-winning ‘closed-loop process’, that recovers or decomposes all solvents and emissions, eliminating dumping of waste by 98%.
- Lyocell fabrics are naturally biodegradable
- The production of lyocell produces no harmful by-products and significantly less toxic waste
- The main ingredient, cellulose, is derived from sustainable tree farms
- The amine oxide solvent is non-toxic, recyclable and not released into the environment
- Production of Lyocell is short compared to the production of other manmade fibres, using less water and energy
The Wenatex bases are produced in a factory that has achieved a CO2-neutral rating. The sleep system manufacturer compensates 100% of its emissions. In addition, the company is a member of the Climate Alliance of the Austrian Senate of Economy and makes a decisive contribution to sustainability and regionality (Made in Austria). They believe in keeping the world liveable and sustainable for future generations and have implemented a three-phase plan, being one of the first companies in its sector, to be a completely climate-neutral company.
Being environmentally conscious is a constant and ever evolving learning process and is not always easy. When it comes to being able to sleep more sustainably, it starts with materials and manufacturing, so you can be assured that sleeping on a Wenatex sleep system is good for your health and for the environment.
