What really lies beneath your mattress

For many of us, the changes we have experienced due to COVID has highlighted the importance of creating a nice space in the home and the movement towards being more health conscious. A good night’s sleep is one of the best things we can do for our health, which includes having a healthy and hygienic sleep environment.

We spend one-third of our lives sleeping, which means we spend at least 318 months of our lives curled up in bed. Wouldn’t you want those 318 months to be spent on a healthy, hygienic mattress?

With proper hygiene comes better sleep quality but hygiene in the bedroom is more than just washing our sheets regularly.

Your mattress can be a breeding ground for many unwanted nasties including allergy-causing dust mites, fungal spores, bacteria, mould and mildew.  A contributing factor is that, on average, we perspire between half a litre and two litres every night. The moisture from sweating can accumulate in and under your mattress. Combine this with your body heat, and you have the perfect environment for mildew and mould to grow.

This daily exposure to a barrage of allergens is not ideal for your health. Exposure to mould, fungus and bacteria at close proximity and for extended periods can result in skin redness, rashes, itchiness, nasal congestion, shortness of breath and sleep issues. It can also exacerbate chronic health conditions, particularly for people who suffer from respiratory disease, and especially asthma, sinusitis and allergies.

Philip Tierno, a microbiologist and pathologist at the New York University School of Medicine, talks about how we have all these theories on allergies and why people suffer from them when the answer could be right under our noses. “You talk about why people have allergies and everyone’s blaming all sorts of things. In reality, it’s right under your nose. You’re breathing that air in eight hours a day every day of your life.”

Why choose Wenatex for hygiene?

The wenaCel sensitive mattress is the only one of its kind that uses the highly effective Swiss Sanitized® technology along with Tencel powder and fibre to create the most hygienic sleep environment available. This technology offers an improvement in fighting against bacteria, moulds and their spores – and therefore also against dust mites.

The key features of the Sanitized® hygiene function are:

  • Optimal protection against dust mites and their allergens
  • Efficient against bacteria and mould spores
  • Recommended for allergy suffers
  • Excellent skin compatibility (skin flora neutral)
  • Dermatologically tested and safe for man and the environment

TENCEL™ Lyocell is known for its natural comfort, efficient moisture absorption and gentleness to the skin. The fibrillose structure of this innovative material absorbs excess moisture and transports it outward, providing the ideal sleep environment – dry, climate controlled and antibacterial.

The combination of TENCEL Lyocell and the Sanitized hygiene function means you can sleep easy knowing that you are protected from the nasties that used to lurk in your mattress and pillows.
